The purpose of this project is to provide universities and organizations with an opportunity to reflect on the 30th and 50th anniversaries of U.S.-Vietnam relations and the Vietnam War, drawing key lessons from the war and its aftermath. These lessons remain relevant today, especially in the context of current U.S.-Vietnam relations, political-security issues, and global conflict and stabilization efforts—particularly those focused on reconciliation.
The Vietnam War had profound domestic, regional, and international implications. Yet, fifty years after the war’s end and thirty years since the normalization of U.S.-Vietnam relations, the forward-looking nature of this bilateral partnership is undeniable. Still, for many, the relationship is seen only through the lens of war.
This project offers a moment to both honor the past and work toward a more collaborative future. As Vietnam hosts a series of commemorative activities, we have a unique opportunity to engage diverse audiences in the United States and explore how lessons from the Vietnam War can inform broader efforts to address the legacies of conflict around the world.
